Designed and built by Roy Parris in 1943, Scamp was made from off-cuts from the Fairmiles being built at the shipyard where Parris worked. The Fairmiles were built for the war effort but Scamp was definitely for Parris’s personal use.
Parris berthed Scamp in Auckland but he did not keep Scamp long after completing the build. Waitemata Woodys believes Scamp was registered V-28 after her launch but there is no record that can be found to show this. Due to the war the registrations were a bit of a mess until an effort was made to tidy them up in 1946.
Scamp in Manukau and Beyond
However, by 1946 Parris had sold Scamp and she had moved to Manukau where they kept their own register. At this time Scamp was purchased by Jim Jenkins and in 1947 was registered in Manukau with the number V-45.
The ownership trail of Scamp is not completely clear but at one point she was owned by Glen Trainer. Later Scamp moved north to Tinopai where Rod Neels sailed her for many years.
After this Scamp was owned by John Tatterfield and was berthed in Auckland. It appears Scamp was in need of repair and was purchased by Greg Schultz who took Scamp back to Tinopai. He commenced a four year rebuild and relaunched Scamp in Tinopai in January 2013
